The kitsch art of happiness
My work can be defined as kitsch , or recycling of consumer society's outdates elements . Found in flea markets , attics and churches , the Virgin Mary , Saints and sculptures of all origins are given a new life .
Each expresses my sensibilities regarding life on the 21 st. century . A sculpture of St. Nicolas , once painted with characteristics of such superheroes as Batman or Zorro , becomes the echo of a French generation brought on America influences .Painted in wild colors , the Virgin Mary is transformed into a seductive free woman , while Emperor Cesar , sprinkled over with pills and tablets , symbolizes illness , the need for medication as well as for snake-oil remedies .
The latch-key child , alone among the traffic signs dotting our over-organized life , typifies a family life bursting at the seams .
These painting are your portrait and mine , posing questions about the evolution of mankind in this material world of ours . It is the need for openmindedness , tolerance and truth that feeds my inspiration , my painting , my passion .
